The Flaming Lips es una banda estadounidense de rock formada en Oklahoma City, Oklahoma en 1983. Instrumentalmente, su sonido contiene exuberantes arreglos de rock psicodélico de varias capas, pero líricamente sus composiciones muestran elementos del rock espacial, incluyendo inusuales títulos de canciones y álbumes —tales como "Transmissions from the Satellite Heart", "Hit to Death in the Future Head" o "Clouds Taste Metallic". También son aclamados por sus elaborados espectáculos en vivo, que cuentan con disfraces, globos, títeres, proyecciones de vídeo, complejas configuraciones de luces, manos gigantes, grandes cantidades de confeti, y la característica burbuja de plástico de tamaño humano del líder Wayne Coyne, en la que atraviesa la audiencia.
